We're in the process of updating our Draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.

We need to think differently about waste and look for new ways to re-use the things we currently throw away.  We all need to do our part - Council, individuals, businesses and the industry - to reduce waste and look after the environment for future generations. Initiatives at a national level are already underway, with the Government currently seeking public feedback(external link) on single use plastic bags and hard to recycle plastics.

The Draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2020 will provide the strategic direction for waste management in Christchurch for the next six years. Our vision is that Ōtautahi-Christchurch is a sustainable city, working towards zero waste and a circular economy.

A Waste Minimisation and Management Plan is a requirement under the Waste Management Act 2008 and establishes a vision, goals, targets and an Action Plan for waste in the city.
