The Garden of Tane is a beautiful scenic reserve in the heart of Akaroa, Banks Peninsula.
Start: Multiple entry points; main entrance is at the corner of Rue Jolie and Aylmers Valley Road. A playground is located near the main entrance.
Time: Up to 60 min.
Access: Suitable for buggies.
Dogs: Under effective control at all times, on a leash in the cemeteries.
Description:
Multiple tracks meander through the Garden of Tane and create a bush maze to explore.
The garden features a mix of mature exotic trees and native regeneration, lots of birdsong, lovely views and a rich botanical and human history. Several historic cemeteries, where many of the early Akaroa settlers are buried, are worth wandering through, providing a window into the past.
